The club’s adult hurlers have qualified for the final of the Leinster Club League after grinding out a three point win over a resilient St Fechins side in Termonfeckin on Saturday.

On a perfect evening in Louth, the Moors shot out of the blocks, racing into an eight point lead after just seven minutes – with Tom Ryan finding the net twice from dead balls alongside points from Colm Randle and Cian Field.

Fechin’s got off the mark with a free with 10 on the clock, but Ryan responded with one of his own to cancel it out. However, the home side then hit the next three scores, including a goal, to narrow the gap.

Jack Butler’s effort was backed up with another free from Ryan to keep the Moors ahead by three before Davin Jones got on the scoreboard with an effort from the right wing.

Having already seen two point blank shots saved brilliantly by the Fechin’s keeper, it was third time lucky for Jones moments later as his shot was powerful enough to find the net despite he keeper getting a touch. Another free from Ryan had the away side in an eight-point lead going into the break.

The lead would stretch to nine after another score from Butler three minutes into the second half, with Jones and Ryan cancelling out Fechin’s points in the next five.

It could have been closer if not for a fantastic save by Ben Mather from a Fechin’s penalty, diving at full stretch to his right to flick a top-corner effort away. However, the home side would hit a purple patch, hitting five points in a row to bring the deficit to two going into injury time.

Fechin’s would not be able to get any closer than that, as good work in the forward line forced the Fechin’s full back to overcarry, allowing Ryan to put over another free and restore the Moors three point lead.

Having beaten sides from Longford, Kildare and Louth, the Moors will now face Naomh Moninne from the Wee County in the final, with the date and location to be confirmed in the next few days.
