The club’s adult hurlers secured a spot in the Meath GAA Intermediate Championship quarter final with an excellent win over Gaeil Colmcille in Drumree on Friday evening.

Davin Jones got the Moors off the mark after Kells had struck the first two scores from frees, with Michael O’Sullivan equalising with a free of his own after Colm Ó Méalóid intercepted a Kells line ball.

Seán O’Sullivan put Don/Ash ahead with a score from play after a batted-down ball by the Kells keeper, before a great move led to the Moors first goal.

Ben Mather’s quick puckout found an open Shaun Byrne in midfield, who delivered a ball into space in the corner, where Michael O’Sullivan ran onto the sliotair and fired off his left into the roof of the net.

Kells did well to respond with the next three scores to close out the half but they were being limited by an excellent work rate in the Don/Ash back line.

Kells closed the gap to one point in the opening period of the second half, sandwiching two frees around a dead-ball effort from Michael O’Sullivan, before Andy Tormey got his name on the score sheet after he made a great run on to a ball from Daragh Walsh.

From there, Don/Ash never looked back, despite taking some heavy hits on and off the ball, with Jones getting a second goal for the Moors, pulling on the ball after Evan O’Kane’s effort had been saved.

Kells responded with 19 on the clock in the second half but wouldn’t score again and it was cancelled out almost immediately by a fantastic sideline cut from Jones.

Davey Carey’s effort backed up one from Byrne from the left hand side before Michael O’Sullivan put the finishing touches on the performance.

Oisín Daly broke through two tackles before his ball in was just out of the reach of O’Kane – but O’Sullivan was in behind to pick up the ball, turn and finish easily to the net to round out the scoring.

The Moors will know their IHC quarter final opponent in two weeks after they clash with Drumree in Páirc Tailteann on August 31st.
