On a balmy evening our Senior Ladies travelled to Seneschalstown for their final group game knowing a win would earn them a home Quarter Final. Ciara Doherty opened the scoring in the 1st minute before Seneschalstown levelled on 4 mins. Doherty pointed again before Seneschalstown scored three without reply to take a two point lead.
AoibhĂn Cleary steadied the ship with a well taken point from the wing in the 14th min which kicked off a period of Donaghmore dominance with MĂĄire O Shaughnessy & AoibhĂn Cleary to the fore. Unfortunately a number of wides meant the scoreboard didnât reflect this until Katie Twomey got on the score sheet in the 20th min, quickly followed by Doherty.
Seneschalstown scored two more points before OâShaughnessy pointed in the 25th min and Twomey finished superbly to the net in the 27min following a great run from RĂona Daly. Seneschalstown pointed again to leave the minimum between the sides at half time.
Half-Time Score:
Baile Sencaill 0-08
Domhnach Mór Cill Dhéaglåin 1-06
The game was tied again in the first minute of the second half as points were traded by both sides until, in the 13th min, Seneschalstown found the net to give themselves a 3 point cushion.
Our ladies never let their heads drop and fought back with 2 more points from Twomey. During this period Abbie Timmons entered the game and got her name on the score sheet.
As the game entered the final minutes Seneschalstown had a two point lead when a great move culminated with a pass from Doherty to the unmarked Ăabha Magee who, having made a great run from defence, finished coolly to the net.
A point from a free straight from the kick out put the Ladies three ahead and they saw out the last few minutes to claim the victory. Their reward is a home game against Na Fianna in two weeks time.
