Scór Sinsir na Mí 2020

The Meath Scór Sinsir 2020 competitions were held last month (February). The Tráth na gCeist competition was hosted by O’Mahony’s club, Navan on Saturday, 15th February. This is a really popular competition and 15 of the Meath clubs were represented. Donaghmore/Ashbourne was represented by Aidan McCarthy, Áine O’Connor, Michael and Marguerite Doherty. While they didn’t win the quiz, they did extremely well and we are very grateful to them for taking part, and representing our club. Wolfe Tones took the honours on the night.

The remaining Scór Sinsir competitions took place in Baile Gib (Gibstown) on Saturday, 28th February. Colm snr Ó Méalóid represented Donaghmore/Ashbourne in the Amhránaíocht and in the Aithriseoireacht (recitation) and we congratulate him for keeping the flag flying for our club.

Oldcastle put a big effort into Scór this year and won four of the five competitions held on the night – Amhránaíocht, Aithriseoireacht (Recitation), Nuachleas (Novelty Act) and Rince Seit (Set Dancing). Clann na nGael won the Bailéad-Ghrúpa (Ballad Group).

Unfortunately, there were no entries for the Rince Foirne (Figure/Céilí dancing) or Ceol Uirlise (Instrumental Music). However, it was a really enjoyable night with a great atmosphere. Hopefully, with all the talent among our club members here in Donaghmore /Ashbourne more people will take part in Scór na nÓg and in Scór Sinsir in future years.
