With an almost eerie silence around the main stand as the sun sets over the empty playing fields of Donaghamore Ashbourne. Pitch 1 marked with precision, flags motionless, nets ready to be burst, sidelines ready for mentors pacing up and down, dugouts prepared and the scoreboard almost lonely in the March sky.

For what seems like a lifetime ago when on match day from acorns to seniors, first aid kits to medics, boots hurls sliotars and balls all tactics changing, this club was a bustling hive of activity. From the early morning coffee to the last call in the bar, the arena in full swing from arrows flying to training sessions, hired out parties and election nights. Not a seat in the house when two little ducks are called and all meeting rooms jammed discussing the future of it all.

Two weeks they said schools to close down, clubs and sports groups soon did follow. It was soon clear this is no ordinary time, a further 2 weeks added, dark days upon us, what is covid 19?. Soon we all found that to stay separate was indeed to stay together as a club, community, town, county and nation. Volunteers sprang into action in the time of need it is only beginning but its end is in sight.

Oh how we complained when up extra early to bring them to acorns to start them on their way. What would we give to be there we might even be early so not to miss it again.

When we return in the weeks and months ahead

We hope

Not one of our comrades will fall.

Stay safe I say to all and when we return like the morning sunrise let’s make this club as great as it once was.
